Introduction

AsULearn can export a downloadable copy of your gradebook, including your students' first and last names, Banner IDs, and email addresses, as well as their course grades. Most instructors defer to managing their grades directly inside AsULearn rather than exporting a copy. Please carefully consider your needs before proceeding.

This is federally protected data

Exporting a copy of your gradebook means creating a copy of student information that's federally protected under the Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act of 1974 (FERPA). You are also bound by Appalachian State University's Acceptable Use of Computing and Electronic Resources Policy, as well as IT-related policies enacted and enforced by the UNC System, which require you to safely and securely store protected and confidential data. Please exercise thought and care with any gradebook files you export from AsULearn.

Exporting a copy of your gradebook

1. In the settings bar along the top of your course, select the Grades link.
Selecting the grades link.

2. On the next   page, click the Grader Report drop down menu  option. Select "Export" from the bottom of the menu.

3. Open the Export As dropdown menu, then select your preferred format.

4. Select the grade items you'd like to include under the Grade items to be included heading. All grade items and totals are selected by default.

Only want student emails?

If you only want to export your course roster, click Select All/ None at the bottom of this section to uncheck the boxes for all the grade items. The exported file will only include your students' first name, last name, Banner ID, and email address.

5. (optional) Use the Export format options to alter how your grades are downloaded.

6. Click the Download button in the footer.

Where is my file?

AsULearn will save your exported gradebook to the default downloads location your browser uses. For some instructors, this is their Downloads folder. For others, it's the Desktop or another folder.
