Summary

A virtual machine (VM) is a software emulation of a computer system that enables running multiple operating systems and applications on a single physical machine. ITS offers VM hosting and management using VMware vSphere, ensuring the high availability of VMs with redundant storage and hosts. The network infrastructure, including redundant network switches, guarantees uninterrupted network availability.

The VM hosting service is supported by multiple hosts in campus data centers, enhancing availability in case of data center failures. VMs are automatically load balanced between hosts, ensuring optimal performance. ITS recommends considering hosting new software or applications in a VM environment and provides consulting and recommendations for application hosting.
