Summative evaluationoccurs at the end of the writing process, when a text or project is considered complete. In contrast to FORMATIVE EVALUATION, summative evaluation treats the text as complete and evaluates it based on its current qualities, rather than evaluating based on what should be revised in the next draft. It is most common for HIGH-STAKES assignments and testing scenarios.
