On a University-managed Mac, your Mac will check for Apple software updates daily. The following scenarios could occur:

  1. If there are updates but no restart is required, the updates are installed and you will not be notified.
  2. If there are updates and a restart is required but a user is not logged in, your Mac will restart immediately with no notification.
  3. If there are updates and a restart is required while a user is logged in, you will receive the following Nudge notification in the center corner of your screen:

Once an update has required a restartbeen sent out, there will be a deadline of 7 days before the restart will be required. We recommend installing this as soon as you have time to prevent interference during University business.

The prompt notification will show up every 75 minutes day and the user can defer the updates until the hard set deadline. Within 3 days of the deadline, the nudge window will appear more frequently.

After the deadline has passed, if the user has not updated the macOS, the Nudge window will stay persistent, the user will no longer have the option to defer (the LATER button will be removed)  and Nudge will come to the front of the Desktop every 30 seconds until the updates are runupdate will automatically apply an hour after the deadline or an hour after the machine is started up.
