Introduction

In AsULearn, faculty can create assignments where students work in groups, and each group makes an assignment submission. For example, students in a group can submit one file that represents their collective work. Any group member can download, modify, and re-upload a file, or edit a text entry. For faculty, grading one (any) student's group submission will automatically replicate that grade and feedback to all that group's members. 

Using Group Assignments

1. Create groups, and assign students as group members.

If you have a particular set of groups you want to use for this activity, and exclude other groups, than you should also create a grouping.

2. In the assignment settings, enable Students submit in groups.

3. Configure other Group submission settings options.

2. Turn editing mode on in your course.

3. Begin creating a new Assignment activity , or open the settings for an existing assignment. 

4. Click the "Group submission settings" heading to view all the Group submission options.

5. Set Students submit in groups to Yes.

6. From the Grouping for student groups drop-down menu, select the Grouping you created for your student groups. 
In group submission settings, select yes for students submit in groups, and select your desired grouping

A grouping is only necessary if students will be members of multiple groups throughout the semester. A grouping is a simple way to tell AsULearn which groups to use in this specific Assignment.

7. Under the Common Module Settings heading, set Group Mode to "Separate Groups" or "Visible Groups". 

8. Scroll to the bottom of the page and click the Save and return to course button.

1. On your course page, open the Assignment you want to grade. The Assignment page will open, displaying the Grading summary and Submission status.

2. Click the View all submissions button. The Assignment submissions page will open.

3. From the Separate groups or Visible groups drop-down menu, select a Group to grade. The page will reload to show only the students from that Group. 

Don't see a Groups dropdown menu?

The groups drop-down will not appear unless you have designate a Group mode setting within the Common module settings for the assignment.

4. Click the Grade button next to a specific student's submission from their Group. The submission Grading page will open.

5. Provide a grade and feedback comments as you would normally.

6. Scroll down to the bottom of the column and click the Save changes button.

  • AsULearn will automatically assign the enter grade and feedback to all students in that group.
