Evaluation is the process of determining the worth or value of something, and in the learning context, it often requires analyzing and comparing actual progress vs. prior plans, oriented toward improving plans for future implementation. Student writing is often evaluated through portfolios, journals, grading guides, rubrics, peer feedback, and teacher-focused feedback. (For more information on the evaluation of student writing, see FORMATIVE and SUMMATIVE evaluation).
The WAC program offers workshops and individual consultations for strategies in responding to student writing. E-mail WAC Director Dr. Elizabeth Carroll (carrollel@appstate.edu) for more information or to set up a consultation.
See the WAC handout, Responding to Student Writing for more information.
