Sometimes when you make an edit on your website, you may not see the update right away on the live site. This is often due to caching. This guide will explain some common caching issues and how you can clear the cache for individual pages.
Only Site Managers and Editors can clear cache for an individual page. |
What Is Caching?
Caching is a performance feature that stores a temporary version of your website’s pages so they load faster for visitors. While this improves speed and efficiency, it can sometimes cause a delay in displaying recent updates.
Common Signs of a Caching Issue:
- You make a change to a page, but don't see it reflected on the live site.
- You make a change and can see the change reflected when logged in, but others don’t.
- You update a profile, but don't see the change reflected on the directory listing page.
- You replace an image or document, but it still shows the old version.
How to Clear the Cache for a Page
Site Managers and Editors have the ability to clear cache for individual pages directly from the WordPress admin toolbar. To clear the cache:
- While logged in, navigate to the page you want to refresh.
- In the top admin toolbar, click Clear URL Cache. This will immediately clear the cache for that specific page.

Still Not Seeing Your Change?
- Try a hard refresh (Ctrl+Shift+R or Cmd+Shift+R) when viewing the page.
- Clear your browser cache if you’re still seeing outdated content after clearing the page cache.
- Wait a few minutes. Sometimes changes can take a moment to propagate even after clearing cache.
- If none of the above methods worked, contact webmaster@appstate.edu or submit a Website Support Request ticket.
