Revision literally means to “re-see” or “look again” at something with a fresh and critical perspective. During the revision stage, writers reread their rough draft(s) and reflect on any feedback they’ve received. These changes are often substantial, and might involve rethinking the purpose or direction of the text, overhauling the organization of the paragraphs or sentences, cutting out unnecessary or irrelevant portions, and adding more information, details, or evidence. The final stage of revision is often referred to as proofreading. This is the stage when writers address small changes like grammar and spelling. A general rule of thumb is “write quickly, revise slowly”.
