Managers should follow the steps in the table below to complete a Tuition Reimbursement Application submitted by an employee.

1 | Carefully review App State's Tuition Reimbursement program policies, process, and procedures to ensure your actions are compliant. Note: The Employee Eligibility, Course Eligibility, Documentation, and Educational Leave Policies are particularly relevant to your role. |
2 | After meeting with the employee to discuss the program/course(s) in which they wish to enroll to determine the employee meets the eligibility requirements, and the program/course is directly related to the employee's current or potential job duties in that it will maintain, enhance, or develop knowledge, skills, or abilities necessary for career development within the UNC System, or help the university achieve its mission, vision, and values. |
3 | Document the use of the Tuition Reimbursement program in the Development Goal section of the employee's annual performance plan. |
4 | Obtain necessary approval for the use of available department funds to cover the reimbursement. |
5 | Upon receipt of the employee's Tuition Reimbursement Application, respond in a timely manner (e.g. within 2 business days). Review the application, complete your portion and approve it if:

5 | Route the approved Tuition Reimbursement Application to your department budget manager for review and approval. |
6 | Document how the employee applied improved knowledge, skills, and abilities on the job in the Development Goal section of the employee's annual performance review in the Performance Management system. |
