For operating the video walls in the atrium of Levine Hall.
This guide is also kept in printed form at the atrium information desk.
General Info
- There are two video walls:
- A 2x2 screen on the East side of the atrium.
- A 3x2 screen on the West side of the atrium.
- The video walls are programmed to turn on at 7:00 am and turn off at 10:00 pm everyday.
- The content is managed by the College’s Communications Director using Scala Content Manager.
- The default configuration connects the video walls to a desktop computer located in the AV closet which also houses the rest of the atrium AV hardware.
- There is a touchscreen control panel for basic operation located inside the left cabinet of the information desk in the atrium.
- There are also laptop connections - VGA/3.5mm and HDMI - located with the control panel in the information desk.
- The atrium is equipped with three audio zones:
- Wall speakers are installed in the pillars between the large windows.
- A bar speaker is located at the bottom of the 2x2 screen.
- Another bar speaker is located at the bottom of the 3x2 screen.
- A wireless microphone is available for the atrium; it is kept at the information desk.
General Operation - Touchscreen Control Panel
The control panel is located inside the left cabinet of the information desk.
- If the system is off, you will see the Start Page; once you press “Press Here to Begin”, the video walls will turn on.
- The main menu displays options for the different Device Menus: Audio Zones, 2x2 video wall, and 3x2 video wall.
- The 3x2 video wall has two modes: multiple image and single image modes.
- Power down the system by pressing the “System Off” button at the bottom right portion of the control panel main menu. This will turn the video walls off and mute the speakers.
- Use the “Video Wall Reset” button as a first line of defense when the video walls are not displaying properly.
To Connect a Laptop to the video wall(s)
- Find the connections for laptops inside the left cabinet of the information desk. The VGA and HDMI cables are typically tucked away behind the control panel.
- Connect the laptop to the preferred connection (VGA or HDMI).
- On the control panel, navigate to the desired video wall menu (2x2 or 3x2).
- Press the button for the laptop cable in use (either “VGA” or “HDMI”) and press the picture of the video wall to route the laptop image to the video wall.
- Adjust the volume for the selected video wall from that specific menu or navigate to the Audio Zones menu to route the laptop audio to a different audio zone.
Video Wall Menus
- The selected video wall can be turned on and off by pressing the power button in the upper right corner of the video wall menus. Yellow means the screen is on, gray means it is off.
- Route a video source to a destination by pressing the source once then pressing the image of the screen.
- “PC-1” is designated for the 3x2 video wall, “PC-2” is designated for the 2x2 video wall.
- “PC-3” and “PC-4” are unused. They will display the desktop of the video wall computer.
- “VGA” and “HDMI” are the laptop connections.
- The volume buttons in the device menus control the bar speakers attached to the video walls.
- Use the “Video Wall Reset” button as a first line of defense when the video walls are not displaying properly.
Audio Zones
- The Audio Zones menu works similarly to the Device menu; route a source to a destination by pressing the source once then pressing the destination.
- To adjust the volume for a specific audio zone, select the specific zone (selected zones have a red border) and adjust the volume up or down on the right side of the menu.
- Alternatively, you can press the “Master Volume Controls” button to open a menu that displays all the volume controls for each audio zone including the microphone volume controls.
Microphones
- The wireless microphone receiver needs to be turned on before using the microphone.
- The receiver is mounted next to the control panel
The power switch is a basic rocker switch on the right side of the receiver.
- Also make sure the microphone is on (there’s only one switch on the microphone).
- See the “Audio Zones” section for adjusting the volume.
- The microphone will always play through all speakers regardless of what video source is routed to the speakers.
- If existing content is being routed to the speakers from a video source, the microphone audio will mix with the existing audio; neither will be cut out.
- For example, if a video is playing to the 2x2 video wall with audio and someone is using the microphone at the same time, both the video's sound and the microphone sound will play through the speakers at the same time without either being cut out.
Multiple Image Mode
- The 3x2 video wall supports a multiple image mode to allow for 3 video sources to be split across the screens.
- The multiple image mode is configured for one large 2x2 image using the left 4 screens and two small 1x1 images on the right 2 screens.
- The in the “Multiple Image Mode” menu, route the video sources as before: press the source once then press the destination.

- Each individual LG screen has a resolution of 1920x1080. The aspect ratio is 16:9.

Apr 03, 2020Hey Daniel,
So excited to see this here!! Thanks for posting. Do you want faculty and staff to see this?

Apr 03, 2020I wasn't sure. I mainly wanted to make this available to other support staff in case I'm not around to operate the video wall. In the year and a half we've been in Levine hall I've had maybe 2 people ask questions about it so I don't know that it's really needed to be visible to faculty and staff. Also we generally want faculty and staff to contact Tony or I before they tinker with the video wall equipment.
