Introduction

AsULearn has a built-in service called the  Brickfield+ Accessibility Toolkit . This toolkit helps you rapidly identify and amend common accessibility issues in your course. Brickfield+ is an optional feature of AsULearn, and you must voluntarily submit your course for analysis to use it. You are not required to use Brickfield+, but we do strongly recommend it. This tool is exclusively available to instructors. Your students cannot see or review any results of this analysis.

We recommend adding most (if not all) of your content and activities to your course before using the Brickfield+ Accessibility Toolkit. This article covers how to submit your course for an automated analysis, and review the results.

Will my students see this?

While your students will enjoy the benefits of your work with the Brickfield+ Accessibility Toolkit, they will never see any notifications Brickfield+ shares with you, the Accessibility+ Review block, the results of your automated analysis, or any elements of the Brickfield+ Accessibility Toolkit. This includes the heat map the Toolkit generates to help you visually identify hot spots in your course.

To be perfectly clear: Students can never access or review anything the Brickfield+ Accessibility Toolkit generates or displays for you.

No, and you are not opted in either. The Brickfield+ is a voluntary feature in AsULearn. To use it, you voluntarily submit your course for analysis. While you're not required to use the toolkit, we do strongly recommend it.

Never. All course content is locally analyzed, which is a fancy way of saying "Your course content never leaves AsULearn". If you voluntarily submit your course for analysis, all content will be scanned within AsULearn.

No. Brickfield+ and its results are only available and/or visible to instructors. Students cannot access the results of an analysis, view the Accessibility+ Review block, or see the course heat map.

Brickfield+ scans course images, links, media, table formatting, text formatting, and layout formatting to ensure web accessibility standards have been met.

There are things Brickfield+ cannot scan

While Brickfield+ can scan the vast majority of your course content, it does not look for closed captions in video and audio files in your course, and cannot analyze course resources that exist outside AsULearn (such as publisher websites). It is not intended to be an all encompassing review of your course, but rather a helpful starting point.
